Well I must say Escaflowne
is one of my favorite series ever. The only problem I have with it is the
ending. Urgh it really make me mad but you’ll understand when you see it.
The story focuses around the main character Hitomi Kanzaki. It all starts
with her reading tarot cards. She is trying to read the future between
her and the guy she likes a senior who is on the track team with her. Hitomi
also has this pendant which is a memento of her grandmother. The strange
thing about it is it swings back and forth like a pendulum. Hitomi faints
on the track. her friend Yukari and Amano (the guy she likes help her to
the infirmary.) Later on that night the 3 of them go down to the track
and Hitomi tries to make the cut for the track team. Except while she’s
running a blue light appears in the middle of the track and deposits a
young man in her path. The young man is Van Fanel he has a sword and is
hunting a dragon. From then on Hitomi gets caught up in a world of fantasy
and technology with nights air ships and mechs called guymelefs. This is
another one of Shoji Kawamori’s Masterpieces (he is also the force behind
Macross). The story is phenomenal it is always interesting and does not
miss a beat one of the best I have ever seen. Also the music is spectacular
with Yokko Kano (Sharon apple in Macross Plus) working on it the music
is phenomenal. The series mixes all kinds of music from classical to pop
to it’s techno style closing it is great. The character designs are also
a little unusual for anime but still amazing. Escaflowne used computer
graphic which is not unheard of in anime but it used a lot and it was also
a TV series which was a major milestone. Overall this is an amazing series
it is now out commercially and I recommend that everyone get it. Especially
if you love Sci-Fi and fantasy
