Tenchi Muyo In Love

It’s rare that you’ll ever hear me say this but: “Dubbed Tenchi is better than original Tenchi!!!” Ok.. got that out. This movie was my first real dramatic experience with Tenchi Muyo. Before that, I had seen the <cough>pathetic<cough> television series.. well, only the first four episodes, and though it was hilarious and I fell in love with it, after seeing the OVAs and all three movies, I know that the TV series is a waste of time and space! Anyhow, after seeing this, I was amazed at how grown up Tenchi actually was and then reaffirmed how much I loved the series. This movie takes place when Tenchi’s mother is a young girl in school. An A-1 class criminal known as Kane has somehow come out of sub-space and killed a billion Galaxy Police (ok, not that much, but the opening makes it seem that way!), gone to earth and back in time to kill a Jurian ancestor. Remember, Tenchi’s mother has Jurian blood in her, which is why he’s after her.. but why her and not the Jurian King? Don’t know, don’t care.. didn’t catch that part I guess. He has nothing better to do. Well, if Tenchi’s mother is dead in that past, then Tenchi never existed and thus in the future is getting sucked away very quickly.. until Washu, the greatest mind in the Galaxy, happens to save him and all the other alien ladies. They much travel back in time, right the wrongs, kill Kane, and set everything straight. The story line for this is very well written and actually will make you cry at the end, when you know Tenchi’s mother must die and she knows she must die, until they erase her memory. The first time I saw this, I bawled like a little baby without a pacifier. Laugh all you want, but you’ll be doing the same thing. It also expands a little bit on Ryoko and Tenchi’s relationship (she loves him, he’s indifferent), as well as provide some very funny moments with Ryoko and Ayeka (train scene anyone?). Mihoshi is as stupid as ever and made me laugh and smack my head in complete frustration with her stupidity (when they ask if anyone has seen anything strange pertaining to Kane, she ends up talking about how there were three rice ball things left over at lunch… god she’s so stupid!!!). All the other characters play their respective roles (in the backgrounds but enough that you love them as much as ever, especially Washu and Sasami). Animation wise, I don’t know what to say. The backgrounds were simply astounding and possibly some of the best colors and drawn ones I’ve seen in a long time. I do believe this was cel-art but I’m not sure.. if it wasn’t, this is some of the most realistic computer generated art I’ve seen in a long time! As for the characters, I loved their animations, as always. Some were a bit stiff though, but overall they were very good. Music wise, there wasn’t anything memorable during the course of the movie itself. I listened very closely but nothing was very memorable, though Achika’s theme was very good. Also, the ending music is some of the best Tenchi ending music I’ve heard. And you already know my stance on the voices. So overall, this movie was very good and a must see. Will you understand everything? Not really (had to watch the OVAs to understand why Tenchi’s mother wasn’t there, etc, etc). But at least you’ll have a great time watching it!

This films represents gerat animation. The music is supurb, the story excellent and exciting, the characters are well thought out ou cant help but fall in love, and the animation is to die for, so put quite simply I LOVE THIS MOVIE! It was one of the first anime films I saw. It began my obsession with Tenchi muyo and cause me to buy not only the movie, but the following two movies, the tv series, the OVA's (the best Tenchi you'll see!) and SOME of the second TV series Shin Tenchi muyo (the worse Tenchi you'll see!!) The story involves our normal cast of Tenchi characters traveling back in time to fix some mishaps. Actually a huge mishap, an evil being known as Kain has escaped from a dimensional prison and is hunting out those with Juraian blood. He knows they are the only ones capable of stopping him from ruling the universe. So he traveled back in time to get rid of Tenchi's mother before he was born. In the present Tenchi and the others discover this when Tenchi nearly disappears before there very eyes! So "Lil'"Washu (The all knowing most kawaii super mega genius in the world ^_^) sends the gang back to protect Tenchi's mother. The plot is very emotional as Tenchi is able to see his mother when she was younger and since she died while he was very young it is a great experience for him. The bickering for Tenchi's affection is not quit as apparent in this movie as it is in the OVA's and TV series' everyone seems pretty good at keeping there goal of protecing Achika (Tenchi's Mother) and so hold down the feud, well at least for the most part minus that little incident on the train pictured above in the animated gif :p  So if your a Tenchi fan or even just the average anime fan I'm sure you'll agree that this is a great film and if you havent seen it go rent it or buy it now!!!
