This is the first Sailor Moon movie based on the second series of Sailor
Moon, Sailor Moon R (hence the title of the movie...) The movie begins
with the young Darien on top of a roof, with a rose in hand. He runs
to someone, to another boy about his age, and hands the rose to him.
The boy thanks him, promising to come back with special flower to return
to Darien as a gift. The boy then magically & mysteriously disappears,
leaving Darien crying on top of a roof. Now in the present, we see
the more older Darien
with Serena at some sort of botanical garden, looking at forget-me-not
flowers. Furthermore in the movie, a young man about Darien's age
appears out of nowhere & greets Darien, telling him that he has finally
found the perfect flower to give to him as a gift. The young man
is known as Fiore, a lost & lonely alien being, who had taken form
as a human. Drifting alone in space, Fiore had no friends or any
family, & having lost a lot of energy, he landed on Earth. There,
he met Darien, who had just lost his parents from a fatal car accident.
Fiore experienced the emotions of kindness & friendship, but for some
reason, he had to return to space. Anyway, after Fiore's return on
Earth, weird plants are attacking the people & sucking them of their
energy. During a battle, Darien (as Tuxedo Mask) is injured badly
& Fiore kidnaps him. It's up to Sailor Moon and the Sailor Scouts
to stop Fiore & this new threat, but will they have the strength &
power to succeed? The animation & story is pretty good...some
of the parts are
funny, but for most of the parts, it's serious. The English dub
(The Promise of A Rose) seems pretty awful (except for the music...I absolutely
dispise some of the Japanese themes of Sailor Moon...), but I still suggest
watching the Japanese version of the movie. |
