FINALLY! A new macross has graced our lives! (as you know I'm a huge fan so slightly biased) anyways I've seen the first episode of this newly created 5 episode OVA. The next episode isn't out until March I believe so I can only comment on the first ep which was phenominal! Its not exactly to me greater then Macross Plus (so far) but it definitely holds its own. The great thing I like is that this is a prequel to the ORIGINAL macross. Before the Zentraedi ever even first come near the Earth! We see a young Roy Fokker piloting the first VF-0 Valkryie type (that doesn't even have the thermal engines only standardized engines) I found it really humorous how they had to watch their fuel (and believable) because of how manueverable the valkryie is, the controls of the thing are a site to behold as well and the initial intro of this mecha in Macross Zero is just wonderful (and the highlight of this episode to me) It starts out with our main character piloting his F-14 against an unknown enemy. One great thing was seeing the poor planes we have now matched up against any type of Valkyrie. Its just no contest and the poor kid just didn't have a chance no matter how good he looked to be. However he survives this initial attack and is left on a sort of tropical island where people worship "bird men" It got a bit weird here and didn't go too much into it so I can't comment much on that now just based off the first episode. Soon after he's there and recooperating from his injuries we see the hellstorm of a battle tearing through the skies and down to the island as we see Roy Fokker appear in the VF-0 for the first time. The mecha scenes are all done in beautifully designed CGI and it goes very well with the animation style. In short any Macross/Mecha fan I highly recommend you check out this series and keep an eye out for future episodes!
