Fist of the North Star is probably one of the bloodiest martial arts animes to ever come to being. DragonBall Z, which is thought to be the best fighting in any anime, doesn’t hold a candle to the fight sequences in FotNS. The story is a little plain… see, Ken and Julia are lovers and want to get married but Shin, who is Ken’s long time friend, has a change of heart and takes Julia for his, hurting the hell out of Ken. Anyway, Ken’s brother Jagi (I guess that’s how it’s spelled) takes on Ken’s identity as Fist of the North Star and his other brother Raul (I guess that’s how it’s spelled) takes over what little of the world there is left.. anyway, after Ken wakes up or something like that, he goes to get his girl back but meets Rei in the process. Rei and him form an alliance, get Rei’s sister back, go to get Ken’s woman back, and planet some seeds… pointless crap, but it’s the fights that make the movie! Ken, Rei, the whole gang can, quite literally, cut a man in half with a simple slice of the hand. Ok, well, that’s really Rei’s department… he looks like he is doing ballet but he cuts people’s arms off! And blood is going all over the place!!! Ken does the hundred, thousand hits deal.. hits you about fifty gazillion times, then you explode and you’re all gone and the blood never comes down! It’s great!! Everyone has a Barbie and Ken type of look… very long legs, small bodies. You get used to it after awhile. The backgrounds look great. Well, ok, so so actually. See, the movie switches between good still backgrounds and backgrounds that move around a lot and have very little detail… so it’s about average in the looks department. Music? Good music. Very martial artsy, very deserty too. Voices are all right. Not GREAT or like THE BEST, but decent and not grating on the ears. Sound effects are decent too. Overall this is a pretty average, slightly above average anime with some great fight sequences.
