| Saiyuki is basically a copy
of the Chinese novel "Journey to the West".
The priest, named Genjo Sanzo, isn't your ordinary priest. He swears, drinks, gambles, and owns a gun. The monkey in the story turns into a demon called Son Goku, still abnoxious and still a pain in the butt. Also he is a demon with a power restrainer on(later it comes off and you see his real power). He still has the big staff that can become infinitely wide and infinitely wide. The big fat guy with the cool looking weapon has made a change for the better. He has turned into a a demon too, but he's sane with a power restrainer as well, named Cho Hakkai. He's like DBZ character, but normal looking. He has the awesome martial arts skills, and the big beams, and always smiles when killing people for some weird reason, also he has a tendency to be polite to the enemy when he fights them. Also this guy has a white dragon (forgot his name) which can conveniently turn into a jeep (for some reason the jeep even has a tank of gas on the back....). The last dude, the pig in the original novel, has now become a half demon half human called Sha Gojyo. He gambles, swears, and he goess after women all the time. He also carries around this big stick with a flat butcher knife type blade on one end, and a cresent shaped blade on the other end. The crescent blade can come out and slice people too. The storyline is basically this; The pries is the head of the Buddhist religion. The Holy Land Sutra has been stolen by the demons, known as Youkai, who have suddenly gone crazy because of negative energy waves, known as Minus Waves. So Sanzo gets to go to the West to get back the Sutra, as well as prevent the demon lord Gyuumaoh from being ressurected. Very good story, could have better animation though. Sometimes Hakkai changes his face. 5/5 Story 4.7/5 Music 4/5 Animation Overall good anime. |
